HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: Helen Russell

Aims:
Business Studies is a three-year course geared towards students interested in pursuing careers in business. The program features a wide range of courses and practical on-the-job training for senior students.

History:
The Business Department was established at Hawksbill High School in 1975 with a staff of four teachers, 75 students and 15 typewriters. The department grew to an all time high of 10 teachers, 280 students, 68 typewriters and 21 computers in 1993.

Today, with the creation of two new high schools, Jack Hayward High School’s Business Department has a staff of seven teachers, approximately 210 students, 28 typewriters and 55 computers.

Examinations:
Students in the department are prepared for and encouraged to sit PITMAN and BGCSE exams in selected subjects. PITMAN exams are held in December, March and June of each year. As these are external exams, payment is due TWO MONTHS prior to the exam date.

The BGCSE exams are held in the months of May – June only. Payment dates for these exams will be announced.

Fees:
Due to the nature of the course, students will be required to assist with the maintenance of the various machines by paying department fees as follows:

Grade 10: $55
Grade 11: $55
Grade 12: $45

Fees are due at the end of September

Booklist:
Students must purchase their own texts from Bellevue Gifts, the Business Department, or from past students.
